Hello, I am currently compiling ksh executable from source in windows
environment. I tried Cygwin, UWIN and MinGW several times but failed.

When tried with cygwin to compile ksh, there are some fatal errors like:

make: "/home/root/mmksh_source/src/cmd/nmake/Makerules.mk", line 392:
coshell open error [No such file or directory]
mamake [cmd/nmake]: *** exit code 1 making Makerules.mo
mamake: *** exit code 1 making cmd/nmake

an error of too many arguments to function 'mkdir'.

I tried several times to make changes to mkdir but failed. Can anyone give
me some guidance or hints over this(like which C compiler is supported in
windows and which platform can be used) so that I can compile out an ksh
executable from source in windows environment? I really appreciate your

Thanks very much for your quick response, Glenn.

By the way, the source code I used to build ksh in windows is
INIT.2010-06-21.tgz and ast-base.2010-06-21.tgz. I did not use the latest
source to build because our previous ksh built over linux and AIX platform
is based over 2010-06-21 source tar ball and we wanna make the source
version consistent over all platforms. Not sure if the latest source can
build over cygwin. Thank you!

Thanks very much for your quick response, Glenn.
By the way, the source code I used to build ksh in windows is
INIT.2010-06-21.tgz and ast-base.2010-06-21.tgz. I did not use the latest
source to build because our previous ksh built over linux and AIX platform
is based over 2010-06-21 source tar ball and we wanna make the source
version consistent over all platforms. Not sure if the latest source can
build over cygwin. Thank you!

2012-08-01 INIT and ast-base source tar balls in cygwin environment. The
other is with 2010-06-21 source tar balls. Both of them reports several

I use the newest INIT (2013-05-24 version) and ast-base(2012-08-01) tar
ball to compile the ksh executable in Cygwin. It also failed with nmake
command not found error. I attached the make.out in this email. Can anyone
give me some suggestions on how to successfully build the ksh in windows
environment? Or else if this problem can be recreated and I should wait for
a patch, please also tell me about it. Thank you very much!
